NAPOLI – COSTIERA AMALFITANA – ISCHIA

DAY 1 – NAPOLI

Mysterious and fascinating, intriguing and passionate, chaotic and contradictory, odd and loving: this is Napoli, the great capital of the Mediterranean. According to this description of the city, in Italy we have an adage: “when you see Napoli, you cry twice: when you arrive and when you leave”. City of Napoli is dominated by Vesuvio, a still active volcano, one of the most dangerous and studied of the world.

In the morning guided visit of the city (lunch not included) with stops at the Cattedrale to admire, inside, the Chapel of the Treasury in baroque style and the Basilica of S. Restituta, the first Christian basilica of the fourth century A.D. Continue in the city center with Castel Nuovo (Maschio Angioino) and go on to Posillipo area and stop on Chiesa di S. Antonio terrace to get the best view of the city and the bay. End of the tour in Plebiscite Square to see the front of the Royal Palace, the beautiful Chiesa di S. Francesco di Paola in neoclassic style, Umberto I gallery and Teatro S. Carlo. The best way to have a complete look of Napoli from the center until the panoramic zone in a short time.
Dinner in a local pizzeria with a tipical show of singers and overnight accomodation in 4/5* hotel (as “Palazzo Caracciolo”, “Grand hotel Vesuvio” or similar).

DAY 2 – POMPEI
After breakfast transfer to Pompei (30 km) for a guided visit (lunch not included). Pompei was an ancient Roman town near the modern Napoli. Pompei and Ercolano such as many villas in the surrounding area, was mostly destroyed and buried under 4 to 6 mt. (13 to 20 ft) of volcanic ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvio in 79 AD. At the time of its destruction, the population was estimated at 11,000 people and the city had a complex water system, an amphitheatre, a gymnasium and a port. The site was lost for 1,500 years until its initial discovery in 1599 and broader rediscovery almost 150 years later by Spanish engineer Rocque Joaquin de Alcubierre in 1748.

The objects under the city have been preserved for centuries because of the lack of air and moisture; these artefacts provide a detailed view of the city life during the period of Roman peace. Pompei today has Unesco World Heritage Site status and is one of the most popular toruist attractions in Italy, with millions of visitors every year.

At the end of visit, return to Napoli. Free dinner and overnight in hotel.

DAY 3 – COSTIERA AMALFITANA
After breakfast transfer from Naples to visit the Costiera Amalfitana (lunch not included).
Sorrento stands on a terrace that increases rapidly above the sea on one of the most spectacular points of the Campania coast. Due to its location and a mild climate Sorrento has been one of the favorite places by ancient Romans. Transfer along the spectacular coast to Positano in the middle of the Costiera Amalfitana with white or pastel-colored houses, the parish of S.Assunta and its beautiful tiled dome, beaches and streets crammed with shops ideal for shopping. Continuation of the day with a visit to Amalfi with its prestigious past. Visit of the cathedral dedicated to St. Andrew which dominates the homonymous square from the top of a staircase and intricate alleyways of white houses perched on one another.
The Amalfi Coast is a stretch of coastline on the southern coast of the Salerno Gulf. This is a popular tourist destination for the region and Italy as a whole, attracting thousands of tourists annually. In 1997, the Amalfi Coast was listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site as a cultural landscape.
Transfer to Ravello, one of the most precious gems of the Amalfi Coast, famous for its tranquil atmosphere and its views. His image is linked to the villas of which the most famous Villa Rufolo, with its breathtaking view and gardens. Return to Napoli for dinner and overnight.

DAY 4/11 – NAPOLI & ISCHIA
After breakfast free time to enjoy the city and for lunch.
In the afternon transfer to Ischia by ferry boat [50 min.]

There is no place that has everything for everyone, but in the world there are places that are very close. Ischia is one of these. Thanks to the many resources of a territory that sees in the Spas, thermal b and wellness the main strength, without forgetting the sea, culture, gastronomy, trekking and all the attractions of an island known as “wide as a continent.”
Visitors and guests are always coming on the island of Ischia to enjoy the benefits of its rich thermal waters. In fact, the island is home to some of the best thermal parks in Europe. There are also many sandy and rocky beaches where you can swim. In some cases, even in winter, as Sorgeto Maronti and Fumarole. Not to mention the small and great coves stormed by sailors around the Golfo di Napoli. But the sea in Ischia offers many other emotions: snorkeling, diving, fishing to whale watching.
Ischia was the first Greek colony in the western Mediterranean basin. An island with an ancient history as evidenced by the Nestor’s Cup, an archaeological find discovered in the necropolis of San Montano in Lacco Ameno. The inscription found on the vessel, dated around the last twenty-five years of the eighth century B.C., is one of the oldest examples of alphabetic writing. But cultural tourism in Ischia also means discover its rural and seafaring history. The “double soul” of Ischia did not conditioned only the cuisine but also – most importantly – customs, traditions and religion. Among the territorial attraction factors we must not forget the contribution of literature and cinema. The books, but even more cinema, contributing greatly to the island which boasts two renowned film festivals.

During the stay in Ischia, whole day of your choice, dedicated to the visit of Capri.
Luxuriant, extraordinary, and such a mild climate… one of the excellences in Italy with its natural landscape. For this reason it has been the background of several italian movies. Capri is a Mediterranean island of calcareous origin that has been visited over the centuries by intellectuals, artists and writers, all enthralled by its magical beauty. A mix of history, nature, worldliness, culture and events that daily blend together and bring the Legend of Capri to life; a legend that sees no comparison anywhere in the world.
Capri has a complex morphological structure, with peaks of medium height (Monte Solaro Monte Tiberio 589 m and 334 m) and the interior highlands, including the main one is called the “Anacapri”.
The coast is indented with numerous coves and bays that alternate with steep cliffs. The caves, hidden beneath the cliffs, were used in Roman times as nymphs of the sumptuous villas that were built here during the Empire.

Morning: After breakfast transfer by hydrofoil [50 minutes] from Ischia to Capri and free time to enjoy the district. Anacapri, Villa San Michele or Monte Solaro by chairlift. And then return to Capri for lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon guided tour of Capri and Gardens of Augustus and free time to visit the “Grotta Azzurra”, with its magical light effects that were described by many writers and poets.
Next to the “Grotta Azzurra”, the “Faraglioni” are another place to visit in Capri. These three “little” rocks emerge from the sea, next to the coast and create a wonderful scenographic effect. They are called by local population with three different names in order to distinguish them: “Faraglione di terra”, the one connected to the mainland, “Faraglione di mezzo” and “Faraglione di Fuori”, the last one, far from the coast.
In the late afternoon way back to Ischia, free dinner and overnight in hotel.
