ROMA – NAPOLI – COSTIERA AMALFITANA – CAPRI

DAY 1 – ROMA

Roma, the most famous italian city in the world. Its richness of monuments and sculptures makes Rome a necessary stage for foreign visitors. Free time for shopping, other individual activities and lunch.
In the afternoon a stroll guided tour through the streets and alleys of the city centre to visit the most famous squares, fountains and palaces of the baroque art.
From the Spanish Steps to the spectacular Fontana di Trevi, untill the amazing architecture of the Pantheon, and the lively atmosphere of Piazza Navona, with the Fountain of the Four Rivers by Bernini.
At the end of the tour, free time for dinner and overnight accomodation in 4/5* hotel (as “The Inn at The Spanish Steps”, “Palazzo Manfredi”or similar).

DAY 2 – ROMA

A journey back in time with an half day guided city tour (lunch not included) to admire the grand remains of the ancient Roman civilization: the Colosseo, where the gladiators used to fight; the Fori Romani, the old centre of the city life; the arch of Titus and that of Constantine, the Campidoglio, with the beautiful square designed by Michelangelo, and Piazza Venezia with the impressive monument to Re Vittorio Emanuele II.
Free time to relax and leisure or to explore the local sights and for dinner.
Return to hotel and overnight.

DAY 3 – ROMA

Breakfast in hotel and full day free in order to enjoy the city…all waiting to be discovered!
Dinner in a local restaurant and overnight accomodation.

DAY 4 – NAPOLI

Mysterious and fascinating, intriguing and passionate, chaotic and contradictory, odd and loving: this is Napoli, the great capital of the Mediterranean. According to this description of the city, in Italy we have an adage: “when you see Napoli, you cry twice: when you arrive and when you leave”. City of Napoli is dominated by Vesuvio, a still active volcano, one of the most dangerous and studied of the world.

Morning: transfer by train from Rome to Napoli [1 hour 15 minutes] and free time to enjoy the city and for lunch.
Afternoon: Guided visit of the city with stops at the Cattedrale to admire inside, the Chapel of the Treasury in baroque style and the Basilica of S. Restituta, the first Christian basilica of the fourth century A.D. Continue in the city center with Castel Nuovo (Maschio Angioino) and go on to Posillipo area and stop on Chiesa di S. Antonio terrace to get the best view of the city and the bay. End of the tour in Plebiscite Square to see the front of the Royal Palace, the beautiful Chiesa di S. Francesco di Paola in neoclassic style, Umberto I gallery and Teatro S. Carlo. The best way to have a complete look of Napoli from the center until the panoramic zone in a short time.
Dinner in a local pizzeria with a tipical show of singers and overnight accomodation in 4* hotel (as “Palazzo Caracciolo” or similar).

DAY 5 – POMPEI

After breakfast transfer to Pompei (30 km) for a guided visit (lunch not included).

Pompei was an ancient Roman town near the modern Napoli. Pompei and Ercolano such as many villas in the surrounding area, was mostly destroyed and buried under 4 to 6 mt. (13 to 20 ft) of volcanic ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvio in 79 AD. At the time of its destruction, the population was estimated at 11,000 people and the city had a complex water system, an amphitheatre, a gymnasium and a port. The site was lost for 1,500 years until its initial d7.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/iscovery almost 150 years later by Spanish engineer Rocque Joaquin de Alcubierre in 1748.
The objects under the city have been preserved for centuries because of the lack of air and moisture; these artefacts provide a detailed view of the city life during the period of Roman peace.
Pompei today has Unesco World Heritage Site status and is one of the most popular toruist attractions in Italy, with millions of visitors every year.

At the end of visit, return to Napoli. Free dinner and overnight in hotel.

DAY 6 – COSTIERA AMALFITANA

After breakfast transfer from Napoli to Sorrento [50 km] and guided visit of the Costiera Amalfitana (lunch not included).
Sorrento stands on a terrace that increases rapidly above the sea on one of the most spectacular points of the Campania coast. Due to its location and a mild climate Sorrento has been one of the favorite places by ancient Romans. Transfer along the spectacular coast to Positano in the middle of the Amalfi coast with white or pastel-colored houses, the parish of S. Assunta and its beautiful tiled dome, beaches and streets crammed with shops ideal for shopping. Continuation of the day with a visit to Amalfi with its prestigious past. Visit of the cathedral dedicated to St. Andrew which dominates the homonymous square from the top of a staircase and intricate alleyways of white houses perched on one another.
The Amalfi Coast is a stretch of coastline on the southern coast of the Salerno Gulf. This is a popular tourist destination for the region and Italy as a whole, attracting thousands of tourists annually. In 1997, the Amalfi Coast was listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site as a cultural landscape.
Transfer to Ravello, one of the most precious gems of the Amalfi Coast, famous for its tranquil atmosphere and its views. His image is linked to the villas of which the most famous Villa Rufolo, with its breathtaking view and gardens. Return to Sorrento.

DAY 7 – CAPRI

Luxuriant, extraordinary, and such a mild climate… one of the excellences in Italy with its natural landscape. For this reason it has been the background of several italian movies. Capri is a Mediterranean island of calcareous origin that has been visited over the centuries by intellectuals, artists and writers, all enthralled by its magical beauty. A mix of history, nature, worldliness, culture and events that daily blend together and bring the Legend of Capri to life; a legend that sees no comparison anywhere in the world.
Capri has a complex morphological structure, with peaks of medium height (Monte Solaro, Monte Tiberio, 589 m and 334 m) and the interior highlands, including the main one is called the “Anacapri“.
The coast is indented with numerous coves and bays that alternate with steep cliffs. The caves, hidden beneath the cliffs, were used in Roman times as nymphs of the sumptuous villas that were built here during the Empire.

Morning: transfer by hydrofoil [45 minutes] from Sorrento to Capri and free time to enjoy the district Anacapri, Villa San Michele or Monte Solaro by chairlift. And then return to Capri for lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon guided tour of Capri and Giardini di Augusto and free time to visit the “Grotta Azzurra”, with its magical light effects that were described by many writers and poets.
Next to the “Grotta Azzurra”, the “Faraglioni” are another place to visit in Capri. These three “little” rocks emerge from the sea, next to the coast and create a wonderful scenographic effect. They are called by local population with three different names in order to distinguish them: “Faraglione di terra”, the one connected to the mainland, “Faraglione di mezzo” and “Faraglione di Fuori”, the last one, far from the coast.
In the late afternoon way back to Sorrento, free dinner and overnight in hotel.
